What an incredible full-circle moment for cinema history. The story of Sylvester Stallone refusing to sell the script for Rocky unless he was cast as the lead is legendary—easily one of the greatest “bet on yourself” moments in Hollywood history.
It’s also fascinating to see Anthony Ippolito carving out a highly specific, prestigious niche for himself: playing young 1970s Hollywood icons in “making-of” biographical dramas, first with Al Pacino in The Offer and now Stallone. Sending in an unsolicited audition tape to secure the role is a beautifully meta move that totally mirrors Stallone’s own relentless hustle.
