Decades after 1988’s Die Hard defined the “one-man-army in a confined location” action subgenre, Hollywood continues to find creative twists on the legendary formula. Lionsgate has embraced the comparison for its upcoming action thriller, Mutiny, starring action icon Jason Statham.
In a clever promotional nod, Lionsgate released a poster for Mutiny directly mirroring the classic structural design and color palette of the original Die Hard poster. Accompanying social media posts playfully acknowledged the homage with the tagline: “Die Hard on a boat? Heard. Catch Jason Statham in #MutinyMovie — only in theaters August 21.”
What We Know About Mutiny
Directed by Jean-François Richet (Plane), Mutiny follows Cole Reed (Statham), a former Special Forces operative who witnesses the murder of his billionaire industrialist boss. Framed for the high-profile assassination, Reed is forced onto the run.
Boarding a cargo ship on a high-stakes mission to clear his name and avenge his employer, Reed uncovers a sprawling international conspiracy that escalates into a fight for survival on the high seas.
The film features a screenplay written by Lindsay Michel and J. P. Davis, with Statham producing alongside Marc Butan through his Punch Palace Productions banner.

Meta-Action Comedy: Jason Statham Stole My Bike
While Mutiny delivers Statham’s signature gritty action, another upcoming project will see the actor embrace a self-referential comedy role.
Statham is set to star in Jason Statham Stole My Bike, a big-budget action-comedy directed by David Leitch (Bullet Train, The Fall Guy). Written by Alison Flierl and produced by 87North Productions, the film features Statham playing a fictionalized, meta version of himself alongside a cast that includes Hannah Waddingham, Eddie Peng, and Daniel Ings.
Scheduled for release in August 2027, the meta-project reunites Statham and Leitch following their collaboration on 2019’s Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.
