Plot Overview

Ava (Sophie McIntosh), the daughter of the Governor of California, sets off on a Pacific holiday trip with her boyfriend Jed, his obnoxious friend Kyle, and her protective personal security agent Brandon (Colm Meaney).

Shortly after takeoff, their commercial airliner suffers a catastrophic bird strike that causes double engine failure. The plane breaks apart in mid-air and plunges into the Pacific Ocean, coming to rest upside down on the edge of a deep underwater ravine.

Ava, Jed, Rosa (a young girl), her grandmother Nana Mardy, and a few other survivors find themselves trapped in an air pocket inside the submerged fuselage. As their oxygen supply rapidly diminishes and water creeps higher, they realize they are surrounded by hungry great white sharks drawn to the wreckage. Trapped hundreds of feet below the surface, the survivors must work together to find a way out before the plane slips down the trench or the sharks break through.

Key Themes & Production Highlights

  • Plane Crash Meets Shark Survival: Combines two classic horror/thriller tropes—a claustrophobic aviation disaster and an underwater shark survival ordeal.

  • Claudio Fäh’s Directorial Direction: Directed by Swiss filmmaker Claudio Fäh (Sniper: Reloaded, Northmen: A Viking Saga), emphasizing practical set construction for the submerged plane interior.

  • Tense Race Against Time: Leverages limited resources, rising water, shark attacks, and structural instability to keep the stakes high throughout the 90-minute runtime.
