Just weeks ago, 5-year-old Aubrey was leading the active life of a typical kindergarten student—playing sports, attending school, and enjoying daily life with her family.
Her life unexpectedly changed when sudden health symptoms prompted urgent medical evaluations, resulting in a diagnosis of Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG)—a rare, highly aggressive form of pediatric brain cancer.
DIPG forms in the pons area of the brainstem, which controls vital bodily functions such as breathing, heart rate, swallowing, and motor movement. Because of its location amidst delicate neural structures, surgical resection is clinically impossible, making DIPG one of the most challenging diagnoses in pediatric oncology.
Unforgettable Milestones Amid Treatment
Despite undergoing intensive radiation therapy protocols, Aubrey has maintained remarkable resilience. She continues to attend kindergarten, remain active in youth sports, and participate in family activities whenever possible.
Among her most cherished recent experiences, Aubrey had the opportunity to hit a home run during a special appearance with the famous Savannah Bananas exhibition baseball team—creating a memorable moment of joy for her family and fans. Surrounded by loved ones, she was also recently baptized during a special ceremony filled with faith and community support.
The Search for Experimental Therapies
Following encouraging recent post-radiation scan results, Aubrey’s family is actively evaluating international and domestic clinical trials to explore targeted therapies, convection-enhanced delivery (CED), and immunotherapy options.
Her mother emphasized the family’s unwavering commitment to pursuing every available medical avenue:
“We would travel to the moon for her if that’s what it took.”
DIPG advocates and pediatric cancer organizations continue to emphasize the urgent need for increased research funding and novel therapeutic protocols to improve long-term survival outcomes for children facing DIPG diagnoses.
