Plot Overview
Cassie Thomas (Carey Mulligan) is a 30-year-old medical school dropout living with her parents and working at a mundane coffee shop. Years earlier, her bright future was derailed by a tragic event: her best friend, Nina, was sexually assaulted by classmate Al Monroe, a crime that the university and the legal system completely ignored, leading to Nina’s suicide.
Traumatized and driven by grief, Cassie leads a secret double life at night. She frequents local bars and clubs, feigning helplessness and extreme intoxication. When predatory men inevitably take her home under the guise of “helping” her, she drops the act, confronts them, and forces them to face their own malicious behavior.
When Cassie unexpectedly crosses paths with Ryan (Bo Burnham), a kind-hearted former classmate, she begins to envision a path toward a normal life. However, when she learns that Al Monroe is returning to the area to get married, Cassie orchestrates a meticulous, high-stakes plan to enact final vengeance on everyone who enabled Nina’s tragedy.
