Plot Overview
The film follows Rebecca Porter (Zoe Kazan) and Dylan Kershaw (Michael Stahl-David), two seemingly unconnected individuals living on opposite sides of the United States. Rebecca is the quiet, sheltered wife of a successful but patronizing doctor in snowy Connecticut, while Dylan is a charismatic but struggling ex-con trying to stay straight in a sun-drenched trailer park in New Mexico.
Since early childhood, the two have shared an inexplicable, dormant telepathic connection. One day, the bond suddenly awakens with full force. They realize they can not only hear each other’s voices in their heads, but can actually see through each other’s eyes, feel each other’s physical sensations, and experience each other’s surroundings.
As they navigate their daily lives with this invisible companion, talking aloud to each other via their shared consciousness, an intense and uniquely intimate romance blossoms. However, their erratic, seemingly “crazy” behavior draws the suspicion of Rebecca’s controlling husband and Dylan’s old criminal associates, forcing them to find a way to physically meet and protect one another.
